The Jews used three Hebrew words interchangeably for the prophetic ministry. (2 Chron. 29:29). The `nabiy' foretells
7 and teaches the divine will. The lcho-zeh' prophesies through visions and revelations. The `ro-eh' takes a step further to comprehend and discern what he sees in visions. The New Testament prophet - prophetes' is termed: a spokesman or an interpreter for another, a person gifted for the exposition of divine truth, a foreteller of the future. It can be concluded that both the O.T. and N.T. Prophet perform two basic functions. 1. They fortell the future. 2
Why then should this particular gift be the first to he rejected by the Lord Jesus in future? "...Lord, have we not prophesied in your name?" (Matt. 7:22).
